City Tour Matagalpa & Visit to Chocolate Factory
Today enjoy a guided visit to Matagalpa known by the locals as “La Perla del Septentrion”. During your tour you will observe the way of life of the “Matagalpinos” in a unique tour designed to experience daily life in this important Nicaraguan city. We visit the “Foreigners’ Cemetery” (a national heritage site); the birthplace of Carlos Fonseca, now a museum of the martyred founder of the Sandinista National Liberation Front; the Coffee Museum; displaying some photographs and tools related to the history of coffee production, as well as some interesting pre-Columbian artifacts and the city center with its impressive White Cathedral.
Follwing our city tour, we will visit an artisanal chocolate factory in the outsides of Matagalpa run by Dutch partners. You will visit and learn more about the way chocolate is made (a semi-artisanal production process), the castle project and of course, distribution channels, and try the chocolate where it is made. You may even taste this delicious chocolate at the end of the tour.
