Active family adventure (9 nights – 8 days)
This trip includes various adventures from Arenal/La Fortuna area, Monteverde cloud forest and Manuel Antonio national park and beaches at the end, with a rafting tour in Rio Savegre, in a unique natural environment. It also features a day of volunteering in Proyecto Asis, getting close to animals and sharing the staff’s labor for one day. Ideal for families! Kids will love the adventures on the way but also learn from the volunteering day.

Morning arrival at San Jose airport (SJO), meet your driver-guide to transfer north towards la Fortuna and Arenal volcano, via the mountains of the Central Valley. As we ascend in the mountains we will notice a change in temperature and vegetation. Arrive at La Paz Waterfall Garden and visit this property. Walk through a trail, leading to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest. Inside the park we will also visit the hummingbird gallery, the serpentarium, the bird house, the butterfly garden and the frog’s exhibit; areas to be enjoyed by those of all ages! Lunch at La Paz. Continue the trip with scenery way in the mountains until reaching La Fortuna and its iconic Arenal volcano. Accommodation at Hotel Lomas del Volcan 3*. Meals: B-L

The morning is at leisure at your hotel. You may relax at your room or enjoyed one of trips offered in the Arenal area. Before midday departure north (90 minutes’ drive) to the Caño Negro wildlife refuge, from there take a boat touring the Rio Frio (“Cold River”). Great for all ages – A MUST for Wildlife Lovers! On a comfortable covered motor visit the Rio Frio. All seats offer excellent viewing. Frequent sightings include three types of monkeys, bats, sloths, iguanas, “Jesus Christ” lizards, turtles, caimans, mammals and diverse species of flora and lowland birds. For photography lovers, sunset over the Rio Frio is a sight not to be missed. As the sun goes down enjoy a delicious typical buffet meal followed by Tico sweets, coffee or tea. An equally tasty vegetarian option is available on request. Transfer back to Arenal, you will get there back around 6pm. Accommodation at Hotel Lomas del Volcan. Meals: B-L

In the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred south east of La Fortuna (less than 1-hour drive) until reaching the village of Javillos, from there continue to Proyecto Asis Rescue Center. First, you will tour the property and get to know the different animals, take pictures if you wish etc., after that, take a break and enjoy coffee and fruits. Then, you will prepare the animal’s food together with the project’s employees, and later go and feed the animals. Transfer back to la Fortuna and have the afternoon at leisure. Optional (not included): Enjoy a refreshing evening at Tabacon hot springs in thermal hot springs, an extraordinary natural site with hot springs and thermal waters from nearby volcano, with buffet dinner included. The perfect place to enjoy nature and relax after an active day!
After breakfast, leave La Fortuna and reach Monteverde in a very original way, doing a kind of tour at the same time, and save driving time! Reach Lake Arenal, then take a boat to cross Lake Arenal with sightseeing on the way until you reach the dam. From the dam continue in a van to Monteverde. In the afternoon join a very interesting and educational activity: The Trapiche tour. This project will allow you to meet and share with a peasant family and learn from the Costa Rican culture. You will see banana, coffee process and other plantations, as well a project of tilapia (kind of fish). To end the tour of the farm you are invited to make a small trip in an oxcart, and then learn about the process of the sugar cane until you get the sugar on your table. This morning, you will be picked up to enjoy an adventurous activity: The Sky Adventure combo. You will do three different activities in one solo day: Sky Walk: Enjoy this guided tour where you will learn all about the flora and fauna of the area walking through and over the treetops in land and suspension bridges. With the Sky Tram explore the world famous Cloud Forest of Monteverde in a 5,249 feet ride that would lead you up to Costa Rica Continental Divide. Finally, it’s time for some adrenaline with the Sky Trek: Fly over the treetops through 10 different cables with safety harness and fantastic aerial views of the cloud forest. Today you will be transferred to Manuel Antonio area, located in the Mid Pacific. Your shuttle will pick you up in Monteverde. Departure to Manuel Antonio via the Coast and then the Pan-American Highway. Manuel Antonio not only hosts beautiful beaches but also one of Costa Rica oldest and most famous national parks. Overnight at Hotel La Mariposa 3*. Meals: B

Today take a leisurely hike with a highly trained, naturalist guide through the exotic, bio-diverse tropical rain forest preserved in the Manuel Antonio National Park. See how many different kinds of flora and fauna you can spot just in the span of a 2 ½ hour nature walk or hike. One of the highlights of this Manuel Antonio tour is that the park is home to 3 of the 4 existing monkey species in Costa Rica. Snacks are offered during the tour, and guest may remain in the park afterwards. Overnight at Hotel La Mariposa. Meals: B-Snacks. Note: Tour is shared.

This an exciting day full of adrenaline! You will be transferred to the starting point enjoying picturesque views of African palm plantations, little towns, small rivers and jungle vegetation. Upon arriving at the river’s put in you will receive a safety talk and an opportunity to practice before getting into the river. Savegre River boasts class 3 rapids and is filled with bends and turns of excitement. You will spend approximately 2 ½ hours in the raft taming the rapids, taking occasional pit stops to rest and admire some of the region’s beautiful flora and fauna. Towards the end of the tour, the river waters become calm and easy, allowing you to take a closer look at birds flying overhead and colorful vegetation adorning the shoreline. At the base camp, you can change your clothes and savor a delicious homemade meal. Transfer back to your hotel after the tour. Overnight at Hotel La Mariposa. Meals: B
