Nicaragua: Granada Colonial and Ometepe Island (5 days – 4 nights)
This extension trip is for the areas of northern Guanacaste in Costa Rica: Papagayo, Tamarindo area, Liberia/ Liberia airport LIR, or Rincon de la Vieja). Includes two of the main highlights that Nicaragua has to offer, and there is nothing similar to be found in Costa Rica: A couple days in Ometepe, a large island set in the middle of Lake Nicaragua, with 40 000 people living in a still very laid back lifestyle with two majestic volcanoes and extensive nature; then, transfer to Granada, the jewel of the colonial cities in Nicaragua, with visits around the city and a day in a private island “Isleta” in Lake Nicaragua, in a unique environment. After the tour, you may continue to Managua airport for your flight out (1-hour drive), or go back to Costa Rica.
- Overnight at mentioned hotel or similar.
- Transportation as stated on the itinerary (Day 1 to Day 5). Transportation will be locally operated in Ometepe Island.

Today we pick you up at your hotel in Guanacaste and transfer you to the Peñas Blancas’ border. Our driver will provide support to get your passport stamped, and will provide all the necessary assistance to cross the border and migration point. Enter Nicaragua, from there transfer to San Jorge in Rivas to take a ferry to Ometepe Island. Ometepe is the world’s largest volcanic island in a lake. You will be picked up at the ferry at your arrival in the Island, and transferred to your hotel San Juan de La Isla 2* sup.
Arrival & check-in at your waterfront Hotel in the island. Meals: –
Breakfast and time to discover this fabulous island! Visit places such as “El Ceibo” museum, the Green Puddles lagoon in Charco Verde Reserve with great views of Volcano Conception. Also visit Finca Magdalena, one of the oldest coffee farms of the island. In Santo Domingo beach, you will enjoy lunch. Later, go to el Ojo de Agua a natural pool of clear water supplied by a river that originates from Conception Volcano.
Overnight at hotel San Juan de La Isla. Meals: B-L
Breakfast and transfer to the docks to take the Ferry back to the mainland. Upon arrival, our driver will meet you for transfer you to Granada, the colonial jewel of the Nicaraguan cities! Founded in 1524 along the shores of the “La Mar Dulce” (Sweet Sea), Granada represents an elegant and historical city in Nicaragua. Its classical and neo-classical buildings and its horse-drawn carriages will transport you back to the colonial times!

Arrival & check-in at your Hotel Patio del Malinche 2* sup. Meals: B
Today, travel by boat to a well-preserved private island (with more than 6000 sq. meters of luxurious vegetation) with a unique natural environment, incredible views of Mombacho Volcano and access to the calm waters of Asese bay. Enjoy a day stay in the island and its amenities such as kayaks and swimming in the Lake. Lunch included. When returning to Granada in the evening you have the chance to enjoy a breathtaking sunset on Lake Nicaragua!
Overnight at Hotel Patio del Malinche. Meals: B-L
Today we transfer you to Peñas Blancas Border, providing all the assistance for crossing the border. Continue your trip in Costa Rica with your Costa Rican driver and make a quick stop in “La Cruz” town; go to the Mirador (Lookout) where you have a stunning view to the beaches of Nicaragua, Bahia de Salinas, Isla Bolaños, and Santa Rosa National Park. Continue until you reach your hotel in Guanacaste.
Note: This tour can also end at Managua airport or continue to other destinations in Nicaragua (we also recommend adding a night in Granada as there are lots of exciting activities to do around/from there, and the city itself is very enjoyable!
