Looking for an adventure off the beaten path? This is it! We included 3 days of active adventures in lesser known areas such as the Cosigüina Peninsula, in the north west of the country. Continue with short visits of Granada, Lake Nicaragua and Ometepe volcanoes. End up with a couple days relaxing at the beach…

Arrive in Managua – ManaguaDay 1: Arrive in Managua – Managua

Upon arrival at the International airport in Managua, you will be transferred with the complementary shuttle to the hotel. Overnight at Hotel Camino Real 3* sup. Meals: –

El Congo – Cosiguina volcano hikeDay 2: Managua – San Jacinto Hervideros – El Congo, Cosiguina Peninsula – kayak Padre Ramos estuary

Today it begins your adventure! Leave Managua and departs north reaching San Jacinto, small village located between 2 volcanoes which hide the “Hervideros”, these geysers whose vapor with 300°C leaves the entrails of the ground permanently.
Afterwards we transfer you to Chinandega and Cosigüina, a remote and rural area located in the far north western Nicaragua. Eventually arrive at a 950 acres’ ranch or “Finca”. Later, take the road again, until reaching the remote village of Jiquilillo, and the Padre Ramos Nature Reserve, which includes more than 22,500 acres (9000 hectares) of mangrove forests, mudflats, sandy beaches, rocky reef, and estuarine waters. Get your kayak and go for a two hours’ kayak tour in the large estuary in the mangrove, see tropical living in the estuary on the way.
Return to overnight at Hacienda Hato Nuevo 1* (Rustic). Meals: B-D

: El Congo – Cosiguina volcano hike Day 3: El Congo – Cosiguina volcano hike

Enjoy a typical breakfast made of fresh products from the farm. Then, we’ll transfer you in a rough trail to Potosi and the bottom of Cosigüina volcano. With a height of 859 meters (2818 ft), its strongest eruption occurred in year 1835 and it has been dormant since 1859. From Potosi start ascend in the dry forest, about 1h30 until you reach the top. Once at the top you will see a huge, 2 kms wide crater, with a magnificent green crater lake at the bottom, 500 meters below. Hike down the volcano. Visit the community of Potosi, where cheese and other Nicaraguan products are shipped to El Salvador by boat, crossing the Cosigüina Peninsula. Transfer back to the Lodge, end of afternoon and evening at leisure to share your experiences with other guests. Dinner and night at Hacienda Hato Nuevo. Meals: B-D

León – Cerro Negro Volcano – GranadaDay 4: León – Cerro Negro Volcano – Granada

This morning you will be first transferred to Leon. In Leon, travel east to discover one of Nicaragua’s monsters: Cerro Negro active volcano. Hike to the top (Less than 1-h) and enjoy overwhelming views once you reach the active crater, sulfur coming out from many places and views to neighbouring volcanoes such Telica, Momotombo, Pilas-El Hoyo, as well as the Pacific Ocean, 20 miles away complete the experience.
As optional (not included) you may do “Sandboarding”; an exciting sport which allows visitors to descend the black sands of Cerro Negro strapped onto a board. Truly, the ride of your life!
After hiking down Cerro Negro continue with a transfer to Granada. On the way you will stop for a typical, local lunch. Try a typical Nicaraguan dish, the Quesillo (cheese, onions, sour cream in a tortilla) and Tiste (corn juice served in a Jicaro fruit). Arrive in Granada, Nicaragua’s most beautiful city, founded in 1524 by the Spanish conquistadors. Accommodation at your Hotel Patio del Malinche 2* sup, located in the historical district. Meals: B

Day 5 -Day 5: Granada – Lake Nicaragua and the Islands – Mombacho nature reserve – San Jorge – Ometepe Island

Today travel to Ometepe Island enjoying a relaxing and amazing outdoor experience. First, enjoy a boat Ride in Lake Nicaragua, a small archipelago of beautiful islands covered in lush vegetation and home to local fishermen communities and many species of birds. Note: You can kayak instead of taking a motor boat tour. Please advise before booking.
After Las Isletas, continue your trip with a hike in the cloud forest of Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve, an extinct volcano totally covered with vegetation. A powerful truck will drive all the way to the top of the volcano. We will go through coffee plantations, which offers exceptional sites to discover its flora and fauna. From the top hike 1h30 around one of the craters with different boasting incredible views to the crater, Granada, and the Islets of Lake Nicaragua.
Later continuing to Rivas and the port to take the ferry to Ometepe Island (1-h). Ometepe is the world’s largest volcanic island in a lake.  You will be picked up at the ferry at your arrival in the Island and transferred to your waterfront Hotel San Juan de La Isla 2* sup. Meals: B

Ometepe Island - Hikes on Maderas Volcano – San Jorge – San Juan del Sur Day 6: Ometepe Island – Hikes on Maderas Volcano – San Jorge – San Juan del Sur

Early morning transfer in company of your local guide to hike the Maderas volcano, one of Ometepe’s 2 volcanoes. You have two options, according to your fitness:

*San Ramon waterfall: It will take you around 2 hours to reach the San Ramon waterfall. See wildlife on the trail; birds and monkeys.
*Hike to the volcano top: 1350 mts. hike up, until you reach the lagoon at the volcano top. Much more strenuous and longer (3.5hours hike up).

After the hike, transfer back to the port to take the ferry to mainland. At your arrival, we’ll drive you to San Juan del Sur, a small and very nice typical fishermen port located at the south west of Nicaragua.

San Juan del Sur Day 7: San Juan del Sur

Day at leisure at the beach! Enjoy your time in this pleasant village with its numerous water front bars and restaurants, boutiques and souvenirs, discotheques. Optional tours such as horseback riding, snorkeling tours, canopy tours, sailboat tours or surf lessons can be arranged. Please inquire with us!
Overnight at your Hotel La Posada Azul. Meals: B

San Juan del Sur – Managua AirportDay 8: San Juan del Sur – Managua Airport

Today you will be transferred to Managua Intl. airport. To take your flight back to your country or to your next destination.
